Removing RTV sealant 200

I need to replace the valve cover gasket which I know has a thin layer of RTV on it. Is there a solvent which will remove this or is it a scrap only circumstance?

Thanks.

You can scrape it carefully or go to Home Depot and buy a tube of "caulk remover" which magically turns silicone into goo which can be wiped off.

Acetone will remove, clean up, or soften most gasketing compounds. Just be careful not to get it on painted stuff, plastic or inhale it.

Use a good sharp scraper and be careful. anything that will unbond the RTV will also eat the aluminum of the valve cover.
