I think the condensation problem in the oil is gone! 700 1989

Kept seeing frothy oil at the end of the dipstick of the 760. Yesterday I drove 300 miles, and it was there all the way up the dipstick.

Today as I went out I got some 'heat' to remove moisture from the tank, and added some Lucas Fuel Conditioner with it. I drove about 160 miles today - and the last 70 I drove it pretty hard (70-85 on the freeway). Just checked the oil, and she is near full and no froth.

Yea! Maybe this car is a blessing, after all.

I think if you are seeing frothy oil, it's not from normal condensation from short-trip driving.

We've done ~9,000km k (5500miles) in a year and ~50% of the trips are short (<11KM). We don't see the chocolate milk syndrome in the oil ... btw, I had an Escort with frothy oil so I know of what you mean.

Have you done a pressure test of the coolant system? The reason you may not have seen it after a long trip was the oil was hot enough for long enough to burn off residual water.

Well, I drive 160 - 300 miles a day. This is the first day that the froth was gone.

The car had been setting for quite a spell before I bought it. It had an oil change Oct 04 - and had less than 1K put on it from that time to when I got it on the 19th of Feb, 05. I am thinking that there was just a lot of moisture in the tank, and it was working it's way into the crankcase. Anyway - maybe it is gne for good.

Oh, I have watched the coolant - and I am not losing any - cept a small amount at the top of the water pump - that ring gasket. I plan on doing the pump b4 long. If I continue to lose any coolant at all after that - then I will do a pressue test.

Good plan? Open to all suggestions.

Thanks

Bad thermostats can cause excess condensation because the oil never gets hot enough to boil off the water. Blocked PCV system, usually the flame trap on non-turbos or the nipple on both can trap moisture in the crankcase. I would have just changed the oil and filter and seen if it came back. Water in the fuel tank usually doesn't make it to the engine because it is seperate from the fuel. When the pump starts drawing water, the engine dies, but that only happens when there's gallons of water in the tank. Dry gas and other addatives cause the moisture and the fuel to mix and both get burned off. The lucas product causes the enginge to burn a little hotter than normal also.

Thanks for the info. I will double check the t-stat.

I am just glad that it is gone. Made me paranoid about the new purchase.

Short trips seem to cause this to happen in My 740 as well.

You say Lucas oil conditioner worked?

I might try that.!\\

thanks for the info.!

The Lucas was actually put in to do some cleaning of the valves and cylinders. It seems to have helped something, as the motor noise is more subdued and constant (not changing).

I am pretty sure that the 'heat' and the good fast drive was what helped the condensation. Maybe it was the combination. It sure did not hurt.

One caution - and I do not think it really the fault of the products put in. The gas gauge was 'working, not working' before I did this. So far it is 'not working' since I made my run today.

Hope it helps with you.
