Motor Mount Change 700 1991

Planning on changing my motor mounts on my 745, have an engine hoist, how far does the motor need to be lifted? Seems like I need to remove the fan or shroud, anything else need to be disconnected or moved?

No need for a hoist, easier with a jack and a few blocks of wood. I would hate to crawl under, disconnect mount, crawl out, hoist up, crawl under, opps not high enough yet, crawl out, hoist up, crawl under, opps too high, crawl out, let er down etc etc. Then... to install the new one...up, down, up, down, opps not right yet. Then after all that do the other side. It's almost impossible with a hoist unless you have a very very trustworthy assistant.

You would have much better control of the whole procedure with a jack. Just jack up one side at a time by placing wood block under the point where the oil pan meets the the block, very easy.

A caution though, be very carefull whether using jack or hoist to make sure the engine cannot slip and fall, ouch, crushed wrists and hands, very nasty. I used back up blocks wedged in above the crossmember to be safe.

Finished in about three hours, did the power steering pump bracket at the same time and no more belt noise. Very smooth now. The engine hoist from a rental center made it very easy. Thanks

You can probably do the job just as easily with a floor jack and some blocks of wood. The motor needs to be raised just enough to install the new mounts, which means it has to be clear of the mounting bolt on the top. Two inches above the level of a bad mount will be enough, and that's on one side only--you leave the other mount connected. The fan shroud clearance has never presented any problems to me.

I am assuming your symptoms are noise and vibration. Let me know how it turns out!
