Power Steering Pump Sans Mount Bushings? 700 1990

The power steering pump seems to shake around a lot on the wife's 90 740 B230 8 valve NA. I didn't get a really good at it and I don't have the car at hand, but the 700/900 FAQ says there are NO rubber bushings in the mounting (unlike alternator and A/C). Can someone verify that for me?

Thank you.

Thanks Greg, Steve, George 700 1990

I took another look at it last night. The tensioner bolt is OK, the belt is still snug, and the pump is still turning without any appearant belt slippage. But if I tug at it hard, I can rock the pump slightly. With the belly pan in place, I can't see up at the bottom side, but my guess is either that the pivot bolt or the bracket is broken. I'll check it out on my day off when I've got time to chase parts and put it all back together in the same day.

BTW - does anyone care to guess at how much fluid it might take to flush the P/S system?

There are no bushings on the PS pump, it fastens to the pump bracket with a long bolt which also serves as the swivel point for belt tension adjustment. The belt tension is adjusted by a different long bolt that passes through a locking bolt. This should be visible just aft of the pulley. The long bolt may be loose or even missing allowing the pump to rotate inwards and the belt to slip. If you can move the pump just by pushing on it, the tension and locking bolts need tightening.

You have:
-a bent pulley
-a loose mounting bolt/nut
-a worn mount (the aluminum triangular fixture bolted to the block) the holes of which elongate over time and cause a shift in the pump orientation to the crank pulley; or
-a failing pump

The one on the 164 and the 1980 245 don't have any rubber bushings.
Could you have a bent pulley?
