brake caliper bolts 200

1987 240 dl sedan

The Bentley manual says to discard the brake caliper bolts once you remove them. Where am I going to get new bolts? Should I just ignore the manual and
torque the "old" bolts back to specs.

Personally I reuse them unless they're damaged (rounded heads, severe corrosion).

I've reused them for 15 yrs or so, BUT I'm in Ohio where they rust up a little(although ONE time ONE bolt loosened). I would use the Loctite.

I posted the same question a couple years ago and got seven or eight responses. Almost everyone reuses them with no problems, so that's what I've done. No problems so far.

I think I speak for a lot of us when I say "We reuse them"

We're not saying that it is a good idea, or that you should, just that we always just put on anoter dab of LocTite and put them back in.

There are only a few bolts that REALLY can be used only once. Those are bolts that actually stretch past their point of elasticity when torqued. If you reuse them, they will stress-harden and not stay tight through temperature cycles and will also become brittle. Such bolts are most often found on heads and flywheels.

I have always reused the bolts.
