Yazaki Speedo Not Working , Odometer Does.....Anyone Solved This Problem? 900 1992

Hi,

I've posted before, thinking this is a capacitor problem. However that thinking was based on 'Anders' experience with an '88 VDO speedo and most likely doesn't apply.

Having switched a speedo from my '93 940 I've determined the speedo is getting its pulse. The problem is with the speedo.

Thanks in advance.

    Dear John H.

Good a.m. and may this find you well. Presuming you can find a speedo repairer, s/he might be able to identify the specific electronic component, the failure of which, has stopped the speed read-out.

The labour cost of doing this, though, is likely far to exceed the cost of getting a replacement instrument cluster, at an auto salvage yard. The repairer can re-set the odometer, so that it matches the mileage on the "dead" unit. This should not cost very much.

If the mileage has to be re-set, the last numeral is supposed to be switched, so that it is Red, rather than the factory-original Black.

I do not know if state or federal law(s) in Australia, require you to replace a failed unit, with an entirely new one, or to get the failed unit repaired. If the original unit must be repaired - or replaced by a factory-new unit - then my suggestion about going to a salvage yard is useless.

I look forward to learning more.

    Yours faithfully,

    spook

      Hi Spook,

      Thanks for your response.

Problem in being a 940 owner in Australia is they didn't sell many. Therefore wreckers don't have parts and if they do they charge a motza. The law is not such an issue regarding 2nd hand use as long as no fraud is intended.

Australia has metric currency and measurement. The 2 markets, I can get a used speedo from,(US,UK) both use miles.

Am I right in thinking your speedos have both a mph and kph marking on them. If so
I could get by. The issue would then be the odometer counting in miles.

My thinking is to try a repair....oh for dilemmas!

      Regards,
