Hi all,

I'll be looking at a '91 240 sedan tomorrow that seems to be a great deal for the year, mileage and price. I'm afraid, though, that it may be too good to be true. So, I'm wondering if there is a pre-purchase checklist out there for these cars. I'd like to bring it to a Volvo mechanic to check out before purchasing but the seller's and my schedule does not permit. Any help with things to look at on a 14 y/o Volvo would be much appreciated.

Check with your dealer for part # 7777342-2. I've used them for decades .

Check under neith car for rust,oil leaks and other damage. Is the carpet dry? Is there rust in the trunk and it's spare tire well? Do all of the doors open and shut okay? Do all the electronics work? Does the A/C work? How is the tire where? Ask him not to start it so you can hear it cold. Listen to the blower motor. Check the oil. Look under the oil cap, is it clean or is it a built up mess? I'm sure there is other things but this will get you started.
