Hey all, my 95 960 is causing me grief! I have figured out iot is the coolant temp sensor, whihc i think is between the block and the firewall. How do I replace it? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Remove the heater hoses, and work from the top of the engine. A stepstool and a pillow to kneel on help. Wasn't bad at all to change. Grab the sensor with a wrench at the 9 oclock position.

I've never done one of these before. Is it covered in the FAQ? I'm not sure what the sensor looks like.

My car doesn't have that sensor, but the diagram in the manual shows it. It is located about in the middle of the back end of the head down mear the block. The diagram shows it to be like a bolt with a couple wires coming out of the head.

When you buy the new one that should help you identify it.

On my '96 with the OBD-II Motronics 4.4 system the sensor in the thermostat serves dual purpose. It signals the ECU and the ECU in turn drives the indicator on the dash.

Yes in FAQ. I just changed on my 740 and have one to install on my 940. I believe they are in the same position, under the throttle body toward rear of engine block. I took the throttle body off to replace it to make it easier and took the occasion to clean the TB while at it.
