'95 960 Oil Leak 900

One known place where the 960 engine can leak oil is at the top of the valve cover through the screw holes holding down the plastic cover over the ignition coils. I've seen it happen on 4 different 960 here. It is usually the rear most screw on the passenger side. Some of the oil drips down the back of the engine. The solution is to wrap the threads with teflot thread sealing tape. This is how the oil leak looked on my engine. All the black stuff is oil trapped on top of the head.

Another place to check is the oil cooler near the oil filter.
Good luck
Justin

Not to insult your intelligence, but you did replace the crush washer on the oil plug, right?

My experience with my 940 has shown me that the front seals leak.

Maybe, but this is a 6 cyl motor not the redblock 4. Leaks can come from a clogged up flame trap, sometimes a rear seal. He did mention he saw it after an oil change, if he isnt used to cars with crush washers, he might not know to replace it. It is his first volvo.

Remove the flame trap completely per Volvo service bulletin. NMI. 900

Did he check to make sure that the oil was not draining from a pool that sometimes is left on the splash pan or other undercarriage? I usually get this when I use one of the drive thru oil change places.
