B230K Remove flametrap at 130K miles? 200

Whilst getting parts to replace the cambelt on my B230K (carb) engine, discussing various maintenance issues with the spares guy who also had a B230 engine, he said Volvo now recommend removing the flame trap altogether after 130,000 miles.

Apparently if left it can block fairly quickly, pressurising the crankcase and leading to seals failing elsewhere.

Anyone else heard of this?

NOTE this was in the UK.

Well truthfully I know techs that have been leaving them out as a matter of course for as long as I can remember. They do clog up and they are nothing more than a little plastic insert. If you throw that part out and leave the rubber nipple and plastic housing so you can plumb the rest of the crankcase ventilation circuit you should be fine. As far as any "official" mandates from the Swedes themselves I have heard nothing to that extent but again people have been leaving them out as long as I can remember, 20+ years.

I'll bet none of those techs tell the customer when they leave them out. Not that a B230 is that prone to pre-ignition or sticky intake valves such that the risk of blowing the modern crankcase apart is significant. Just my bet it doesn't get written as such on any document that could come back to haunt them in court.
