'59 PV 445 wiper linkage 444-544

Hi,
The long thin metal linkage piece that goes from the wiper motor to the right (passenger) side wiper under the dash is missing. I looked at a 544 and this piece seemed shorter. I am wondering if anyone knows if there is other type of car out there that the right length linkage piece can be taken from. I am wondering if one taken from a 240 or 140 might work but have yet to go to the junkyard with a tape measure. I guess I can always shorten one that is too long.
Thanks.

Ted,

I have the dash apart and the entire linkage out of my 444 project and am looking at the wiper linkage. I expect that it is the same as 445, if that is what you are working on. The linkage is in four pieces riveted together in the center and detachable from the wiper arm bases using C-clips. Removing a piece would require unriveting. I wonder how or why that happened.

In any case, the right piece (center to arm) is a simple steel strap like the left one but with a very slight bend and a "dogleg". It would be easy to fabricate. Alternative would be to buy an intact linkage from a used part seller.

If you decide to make it or have it made, let me know off line and I will send you a photo of my linkage and a "tracing" of the right-hand piece.

Nobody wants to go out on a limb on this one, eh?

Sorry. I can't be of specific help either, but...

Could the linkage be displaced and hiding behind the dash or firewall sound insulation? Or maybe twisted off in an unusual direction to keep it out of the way?

Failing that, the end-links are the critical part and massaging a rod with appropriate end links should be well within any Volvo tinkerer's ability (heck, probably even mine!).

I do not believe other models will fit as the systems changed to a cable-link later.
