1987 244DL oil plug size and tire question 200

Hello there. I was wondering what size the oil drain plug on these bad boys are since I tried using a 22mm wrench and it still wouldn't fit the plug. Also, is it possible for the steel tires that came stock on my car to have rusted to the point of not holding air. I lose 10-20 psi every week and am constantly topping off. What else can this be? Thanks.

1987 244DL oil plug size and tire question 200

Yes the rims can rust, it happened to me. The only way I found it was to pump the tire up to 50psi and spray it with soapy water.

The inner lip of the rim had a raised lumpy ridge of rust, I replaced it with one from the junk yard.

When the guy pulled the tire, the bead of the tire looked pretty awful, from being pressed up against the lumpy rim.

I asked the guy if he thought it was going to seal on the new rim. He said he thought it would, and it did. Still good today.

I'm pretty sure the drain plug is 1".

And yes, its possible the rust/curb rash can make your tires not seal to the rim.

You have steel tires?

I didn't know that was an option!

They must as noisy as hell and pretty slippery on corners...not to mention the incredible unsprung weight! God, your car must handle like a drunken fat woman on rollerskates.

If you mean the wheels, I would say it is nearly impossible that the body of the wheel could have rusted away that much.
- There may be some rust or crap stuck where the bead seats.
- You have something sharp stuck your tire.
- The valve stem is leaking.
- The valve isn't screwed in all the way.
- Some joker is letting the air out while you sleep.

Take off the offending wheel, take a bucket of soapy water and a rag, and slop the water around where the tire seats and around the valve stem. Watch for bubbles.

If you don't want to have it properly fixed, go down to your local hardware store and buy a can of that fix-a-flat crap and spray it in.

Thanks for the replies. My error on the "steel tire" slip. I thought it was 22mm, but I wasn't 100%. Thanks again.

nobody lets air out of tires while you sleep - old wives tale.
there are 25 other possible reasons that are more possible and less
paranoid delusional.
First of all, are you slamming into the curb as you pull in to your
driveway? That will kick the hell out of old tires and cause consistent pressure loss.
It will also exacerbate/cause seal problems at the rim/tire contact point.
Get your wheels serviced by a professional shop; that is too much to be losing to not be actionable.
