POWER STEERING PUMP/ALTERNATOR 700 1991

I HAVE A 1991 VOLVO 740 NON TURBO, WHEN TURN MY WHEEL TIGHT MY DASH BOARD LIGHTS LIGHT UP. DURING THIS PAST WINTER SOMETIMES I HAD TO LET MY CAR WARM-UP A BIT BECAUSE OF THE POWER STEERING. I CAN TURN MY WHEEL BUT SOMETIMES IT CAN BE HAVE TO DO. I HAVE CHECK THE FLUID AND IT IS FINE. LAST NIGHT ALL THE DASH BOARD LIGHTS CAME ON AND MY CAR DIED. SO I WAS THINKING ONE THE ALTERNATOR HAS GONE BAD AND THE POWER STEERING PUMP NEEDS TO REPLACED. CAN ANYONE GIVE MY ANY IDEAS WHAT IS WRONG?

It sounds like the v-belts need to be replaced or tightened at the very least. The belts are slipping over the pulleys and not turning the power steering pump or alternator shafts. Check out the belts and let us know what you find. John
