940 turbo test drive 900

Took a "94" 940 turo out for a test drive yesterday. 101,000 mi's. I don't think the turbo was even working in the thing. My question is, shouldn't i feel a definate "kick in" of power as the turbo kicks in (as happens in my 760) or are the 940's somehow smoother accelerating without the "kick in" of power. The needle goes up into the the turbo zone on the gauge by it just evenly accelerates. To many other things wrong with the car to consider purchasing.

My 940 has a definite surge of power when turbo gage is 2/3 - 3/4 pegged.
maybe car has turbo hose with hole or something hampering power.

It is nice and smooth and keeps pulling. It isnt like kicking in the secondaries on a 4-barrel carb.

On the other hand, if it wasn't working.. It would be a real dog...

There is a smooth transition as the turbo comes online, you don't really feel a kick as you do a continuous surge of power beyond what you would expect from a n/a car. It is most apparent above 3000 rpm when you are cruising on the highway and floor it. The car should just keep pulling. Kind of hard to describe but a more refined application of power than older turbo models.
