These other two guys know more than I do, and my experience is with a newer model, but for what it may be worth - as I recall, when my alternator brushes wore out on my '91, the dash lights started blinking at a steady frequency.

New brushes were easy to install, and down the road I went.

Volvo Ford V-8 is on the spot. It's a wire grounding when it should not.

Watch the lights that blink, should not be the oil light, but all the others.

There is a red wire that runs from the gray connector on the firewall to the back side of the alternator. when it's grounded, the lights light up.

It is hooked to the rotor windings, and thence to ground, so when the alternator is not spinning, the wire is grounded and your lights come on. After engine start, the alternator no longer offerrs a ground, so the lights go out.

SO - if the lights stay on it means that the red wire is grounded. That, BTW,
means also that the alternator is NOT charging. Needs a fix quick. Many folks run a new wire. Start at the gray connector and re-use the odd-ball connector on the wire. Run the new one along the firewall, down the right fender, to the alternator and leave good slack.

Ought to fix your problem.

Good Luck,

Bob

Check the wires at the alternator. That's where the wire is that lights all the
warning lights in the dash when the key is firs turned on. They are problably losing the insulat ion.
