dashboard swap...'83 to a '93 200

will a dashboard from a 1993 240 fit in a 1983 240? i want to swap the badly cracked dash in my 242Ti for one out of a '93 240 from the junkyard. i know they changed a little bit but i'm not sure if they'd still match up.

thanks in advance
ian

hello ian,
i don't know about the 83, but when i added a 93 dash in my 86, the screw holes, plastic cover to the steering wheel didn't match up.

i had to get a new center console, a plastic cover to the ignition switch, and i added the knee pad and it's metal support.

i had to go back over and over again to the 93 in the junkyard to pick up the parts. i learned the hard way.

also, i replaced the blower ducts (goes to the center vents in the dash), 2 halves on each side, and the 86 and the 93 didn't match up either, so i had to pull all of the 93 240 blower ducts. i must have worked on the dash and vents so many times that i could have replaced the fan blower about 6 times.

regards,

Well, pretty OK, but it will have a couple of lug receptacles for the bolster on the driver's side, unless you want to install the support frame and bolster with it. Those are on the 90-93 type. Also the trim around the ignition will need a little mod. It can be done hal way (no bolster) or all the way (bolster and support frame) but a nice 89 dash is the latest one that is a perfect match.
