Service light interval - 940 Turbo 900 1993

I am delighted with my first 940 Turbo. After putting on 4,000 miles, it seems that the SERVICE light illuminates about 3,000 miles since the last oil change and reset. The owner's manual indicates the light should come on at 5,000 mi intervals, for Turbo models. The odometer has 138,000 on it. The trip odometer does not reset to zero, but it does increment. Can the Turbo owners verify the reliability of the SERVICE indicator illuminating at 5,000 mi.?

Yeah, I get a kick out of that 'service light' too.

To me it means 'Time for the non-mechanic Volvo owner to lighten their wallet at the Dealers!'

Just hold down the reset button with a nail head for 4 seconds and it'll stop bugging you for more money.

Volvo determined that every 5,000 miles the Volvo owner is ready to spend again.

:0)

Bob, not sure what happens in the good ol' US of A, but just apply a little bit of common sense here.
Change the oil every 6,000 miles unless you leave the car idle for more than 3 months at a time.
Take the service light bulb out and throw it away.
From Death Valley to Alaska the oil WILL cope with the extremes of climate and driving conditions- the only exception I would appreciate is if you are racing this vehicle.
I don't believe the ECU on these cars is advanced enough to put the vehicle into "limp home" mode if the service light is not reset, though please take advice on this. There is a limp home mode, but that will bring the Lamda light on. This normally happens if a sensor fails, for example, the knock sensor.
Trust me, I'm a mechanic ;@)

Don't trust that light one bit! I have the same car, same year you do. My light comes on in a very random fashion - sometimes every 1,500 miles, sometimes as long as 7 or 8k. I've tried resetting it with the car in different combinations of running/non running modes - same results. Both my odometers work just fine. My dad's NA 740 (1991)is a little more consistent, but it still never lights up at the 10,000 mile interval the manual specifies (not that you'd want to wait that long to change the oil, anyway).

They all should go on at 5k miles.
