difference between '88 wiring harness and '86 wiring harness? 200 1986

There seems to be a difference in the harness of the '88 as opposed to the '86 model year...

there is a 2 prong connector on the '88 that is very close in proximity to the coil connections (and comes from the same bundle as the coil connections)... in fact the 2 prong connector has the same color wires as the coil (seems like it's some kind of extension for the coil wires)

One wire is Blue and the other is Red/White

I saw an '87 that a friend of mine had and it had this connector as well ... His connector attached to a female connector whose wires became a bundle and ran down below the coil then it looked like it was going back to the interior???

Is this connector necessary for my '86? Is it something I can wire up to add value to my ride?

or should I just secure it and make sure it won't short on anything?

thanks,,

ajck

difference between '88 wiring harness and '86 wiring harness? 200 1986

I had the same question when I replaced my sister's '87 740GLE's engine wiring harness. When I consulted my volvo service manuals for the 2.2 it said it was atest connector lead. When I took out her old harness the end was not connected to anything. The car ran before and runs great now with out it. If you want to keep it pry out the connectors using an awl and solder new wires to the terminals (sometimes you can use automotive replacement terminals, but they can be loose.) I would reccommend a wire loom if placed in the engine bay.

Check out Dave Barton's website. He's president of the SoCal chapter of the vcoa and he sells refurbished wiring harnesses. It's definately worth your time - tons and tons of good information there.

Thanks,

I'll not worry about it and terminate the wires somehow.
