Key stuck in ignition 900 1994

1994 940
For some reason I can not seem to get the key to turn all the way back to position (i) so it can be removed. Not sure if its related but the steering wheel does not lock now. Could this be a problem with the neutral safety switch? Anyone had this problem before? solution?

Key stuck in ignition 900 1994

Dear saskiepuss,

Good a.m. and may this find you well. When working in/around the steering column, be sure to remove the negative battery cable clamp from the battery terminal, and put the clamp in a plastic bag, to isolate it.

This cuts the flow of power to the SRS - the airbag system. The driver's side airbag is housed in the steering wheel (the sensor is mounted on the floor pan, under the driver's seat). The passenger-side airbag is under the glovebox.

While it is most unlikely that work around the ignition could trigger the airbag, an airbag deployment at close quarters can be very dangerous, even lethal.

Thus, disconnecting the power supply gives you a margin of safety. You'll need the radio security code, to be able to restore the radio to operation. If you don't have the code, any dealer can provide it to you, if you supply the Vehicle Identification Number.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

spook

Sounds like a mechanical problem with the switch, the cable to the tranny selector, or the steering wheel lock. It also sounds like you will have to do some disassembly to diagnose. Start with the information in the 700/900 FAQ under "select link" above.

This sound if the electrical portion of your ignition switch is going south on you. Try removing the electrical portion from the mechanical portion of the switch. Once remove the key will come out without a problem. If you have a S90/960 it is a half hour job. FCPGROTON has the OEM electrical portion for $35.00 or $40.00. Good luck
