240 GL backup/inhibitor switch 200 1987

I need some advice. We just bought an '87 240, & the day after buying, it wouldn't turn over. The prob was the A/T backup/inhibitor switch placement. With a bit of adjust, it starts fine. My issue is that the white "arrow" on the shift lever still doesn't line up w/the P or N notches. There's no more play left to push the switch forward, so they'll line up better. Now I could take a small file & make the screw cutouts longer, but is there a better way? Cuz the Neutral setting is still real iffy. If I don't place it just right, it won't start in Neutral. Any ideas or suggestions are most appreciated.

There are bushings in the linkage under the car, these fail at the age of these cars, also the linkage is threaded for adjustment.
