Fuel Filter Replacement S90-V90

Got to change the fuel filter in the next few days on my '97 3.0 V90. I see from the FAQ file that changing the Fuel Filter mentions blocking fuel pipes to prevent fuel spillage....but I dont really want to have to crimp potentially fragile fuel pipes....I'd rather release the pressure and clean up any spillage like that....all other fuel filter in the past have been done by either using the fuel pump cut off switch or taking out the fuel pump fuse and then running the engine a few times to use all excess fuel.....wouldnt this technique work on these beasts? It has on all my Saab's in the past!

I just bled off the pressure with the existing schraeder valves, one on the fuel rail and one on the fuel line aft of the filter. Not much fuel in the line after the pressure is bled off. Of course there's plenty in the filter.

Is the shraeder valve that looks like a tyre valve not far from the fuel filter further along the fuel line? I so how did you loosen the pressure? didnt fuel come through it?

Release the fuel pressure just like you let air out of a tire. Push on the small pintle on the center of the valve. Use a rag to avoid spraying gasoline. If you let the car sit overnight there may not be much pressure left in the system.
