any tips to convert from 6 to 12V? 444-544 1959

I would like to improve the startability of my '59 544 w/B16b by converting to a 12volt system. Anyone out there done it? any suggestions? I saw the SWEM intelabl kit to retrofit a delco alternator - but that is for a b18/b20 any one know if it will work on a B-16? How difficult a procedure is this? Also was going to try installing an MSD high output coil as a way to get a little more spark and staying with a 6V system. anyone had expereince with that? thanks in advance

mv;

(I am answering here publically for everyones info, so I will not answer your private email also.)

In addition to the alt kit (which at present, is NOT suitable for the B16 *), the 6 to 12V conversion article should answer most questions.

As far as improving startability, the 12V conversion will go a long way to achieving that, but if you install a 12V coil assy., you could further upgrade the IGN to a pointless**, and then to an MSD system, as some here have done...

* I'll have to do some more enginnering to make a kit suitable for B16....but there's just not that much call for it. (Interested parties, please speak/post up!)

** IMO, after having gotten 50K miles on a set of points (See: http://www.intelab.com/swem/tuneup.htm , pointless describes it well.

Cheers

Can't help with the conversion, but enjoyed the picture of Vernen Green and the Medalians!
