I have a '96 Volvo 960 sedan that had an interior fire. The car has less than 2000 miles on it. It is too far gone for a revival, so I have been looking for a donor car, but years have past and it does not make sense to build a 960 for resale.

I recently aquired (2) volvo P1800s I don't know the year and both of these cars are basically striped to the body. Fine cars, but no real value performing a ground up restoration.

When given lemons, make lemon aide. I believe that the straight 6 in the 960 will fit into the engine compartment with some firewall modification and I am pretty sure that the rear end is close enough that I can flare the wheel wells if the fit is not perfect. Drive shaft is no problem. The 1800 steering and suspension is worth replacing and the 960 gear looks like I can make it work.

I have seen a small block chevy conversion and a GM v6 conversion. both looked very tight. Now here is the question. If you put a Ford motor or a chevy motor in a Jaguar, they call it a Lump. What do we call a P1800 with a later model engine?

Anybody have any experiance with "lumping" an 1800? and please don't shoot at me for creating a frankenstein car. This project would be at the crusher if I did not do it. I hate to see Jaguar V-12's get the V-8 conversion, but this is a different situation.
