B20F: Low Oil Pressue 1800

With the help of a reputable machine shop, I recently rebuilt a B20F (upper and lower) in a '73 1800ES and got it running today. This is my first Volvo rebuild but I've rebuilt a few dozen Chevy small blocks back in the 70's and 80's. As part of this rebuild, I got a new oil pump and pressure gauge (AutoZone cheapie). The problem is that the gauge registers 0 PSI but the oil light/sending unit promptly go out once the engine fires up. There appears to be oil flowing up to the rockers and oil filter. The distributor is seated properly in the oil pump shaft.

I'd like to think it's the new oil gauge (the stock one never worked) that's the problem but I fear that I may have assembled something wrong.

Anyone have some ideas?
