Is it possible to remove and run the car w/o the turbo? 900 1991

I'm a 240 guy.

There is a nice 940 turbo for sale near me. I was wondering whether it's possible to "do without" the turbo. The current owner said that he'd replaced the turbo about 80k miles...and it cost ~ $1000. The car has about 175k on it now......so I was wondering if I could disconnect the thing IF it ever goes out. Do you know??
