Hello all,
I own two 244s: a 1984 and a 1991. I've had the 1984 for over a year and I must say that it is perhaps the best car I've ever owned. The engine and transmission is so strong, I think I could tow my house with that car! The engine is so full of pep and life, you wouldn't even know that it's 21 years old! Anyways I bought my '91 a couple of months ago because my girlfriend convinced me that I should get a "newer car". Well the '91 has developed a serious piston slap, bad enough that it's going to cost more to fix the slap than to just drop a new engine in the car. Not to mention the engine runs like a 300lb man trying to do the 50 meter dash! This is where I have my question: I love the older model 240's (The early '80's ones) and I wouldn't have any qualms dropping like $300 and getting an old 240 that needs a new engine and putting my engine from the '84 in it. (The body of the '84 is rusted out beyond repair.) But I wouldn't mind putting the '84's engine in my '91 either. The only problem is that I don't think that engine is compatible with the '91's transmission? (The '84 has the newer model B230 engine that would be found in a 1986/87 240.) But another con for my '91 is that the transmission makes this semi-quiet high pitched whine when I'm driving at high speeds (55mph+) and I think it's going to need a new tranny soon too I think. I don't know guys, all I know is I would REALLY APPRECIATE ANY IMPUT!! haha Thanks!
