I was trying to find a location in Tampa, but had poor directions. Stopped at a light, suddenly all the dash lights come on. Having recently replaced the Alternator Brushes, I knew I had lost the alternator belt.
I stopped at a Convenience Store and asked for the location of the nearest Auto Parts store. Drove there(about 5 blocks)and opened the hood. Alternator belt was gone, and AC belt was hanging on the compressor.
Bought the necessary belt($3) and asked them if they had some tools I could use. They handed me a 14 inch long adjustable wrench and a pair of Vise-Grips.
By clamping the Vise-Grips onto the bolt, and using the Adj. wrench on the Vise-Grips, I could loosen everything. But I couldn't use those tools and get to the Tensioner Bolt.
I went back inside to borrow another tool, and luckily, they had a 10mm combination wrench which I could use on the Tensioner Bolt.
So after about 30 min. in 90 deg. heat, I was back in business.
I will carry some of my own tools from now on, and may even buy a set of sockets to keep in the car. Also will carry some hand cleaner and rags.
What tools do you carry with you?
