Aftermarket vs Volvo original parts - Tail light heads up - 1990 745 700

I just replaced the rear light assemblies on my 1990 740 wagon with aftermarket units from www.vlvworld.com. They fit and work just fine, but...

The www.vlvworld.com units cost $96.69 US each + $11 shipping. They arrived within 10 days as advertised. Service was prompt and friendly. I was charged $20 at the post office here in Ontario when I picked them up. That was a surprise. Customs fee I suppose. I'll see what I actually pay on the credit card after the conversion to Canadian funds takes place but I expect about 15% so about $235 Cdn + $20 postage = $255 Cdn. I may have avoided local taxes but maybe the Customs fees covers that. Volvo quoted something close to $200 Cdn each (memory foggy) so the savings are substantial. The units came with no gaskets and I don't know if the Volvo units come with gaskets or not. Luckily my gaskets separated cleanly and were reusable. The long grounding strip on the original units has a tap for the ground wire connection at the bottom of the unit. The new units had the tab at the top and the ground wire was not long enough to reach. I swapped the grounding strip from the old unit but had to grind off a bit of plastic for it to fit. On close inspection, the new and old units are not identical on the interior back. Close but not identical. Wonder why they bothered to make it different? Why is the ground tab in a different location. Guess that is why original Volvo parts are preferred.
