It is a 92 740 turbo wagon. It only seems to shift twice, never shifts to a third gear (is this the same as 'overdrive"?) To drive at highway speed you have to do a little over 4000 RPM, and fuel consumption is about double what it should be. So I stay on the access roads to avoid ruining the tranny. I understand there is an overdrive relay (one of those behind the ashtray?). I do get an up arrow when pressing the shifter button. Does this sound like a bad overdrive relay, and it is just stuck in "OD disabled" mode all the time? Can you pull out the OD relay and jump contacts to confirm a bad relay, and temporarily get it working properly?
My other car is down, no money to fix, and I really need to get this car working right! A spare tranny came with this car, but of course all the simple things need to be tried.
