Hello All:
In my travels in upstate NY I found a 1967 P1800 at an auto repair place that has been there for at least a year. The interior looks like it was someone's home for a while, and the exterior is showing a moderate amount of rust and some missing detail pieces. One side has also been sitting on a jack for a long time.
I looked under the hood and the engine actually looks quite clean, including dual Strombergs. The clowns inside said the owner was asking $4,000 for it. Not having worked on 1800's (I currently own and maintain a 122S wagon of the same vintage) I am guessing there is at least $2,000 of interior work to be done, not to mention everything else that might be wrong with this thing including brakes, suspension, tires, etc.
Let us say for the sake of argument that I could get this guy down to $2,500. Is it even worth that, considering there might be $5,000 worth of repairs to be done, not to mention my time? What quality of P1800 can I get for $7,500 before I ever turn a wrench?
Cheers,
Jeff Pucillo
