Coolant Temperature 'Extra' Indicator

I am about to give my daughter on of the Volvos and I wonder if anyone has come with a way to install a coolant temperature indicator that light up or beeps when the coolant goes higher than the normal temperature. I mean even my self find it hard to check the temperature gage. My daughter sure will be more worried about the music on the radio than a temperature gage. Any idea will be appreciated.
