Camshaft and Intermediate shaft endplay 200 1984

Hello, I am in need of some information regarding endplay. My int. shaft has enough endplay that i can move it in and out at least 2 or 3 mm, with the timing belt off. How can I correct this?
Also, In the Bentley manual, I read a method for checking cam shaft endplay, and it said to correct excessive endplay to re-place the bearing caps. Does this sound right? Where is a good place to buy them? Thanks for your help, Ken
