I've found a source for fairly cheap 1 x 45 dcoe b20 manifolds (cross over style). And I've been milling around for some time now trying to make up my mind as to what I want to do for a fuel system on my 68 145.
I've disassembled and cleaned up two pairs of SU's and am probably looking at ~$180 to rebuild them myself.. or at best ~$400 to get them rebuilt by someone who knows more about what they are doing.
The SU's are definitely the safe choice.
However, I can also get 2 x 45 DCOE manifolds pretty cheaply as well and while thats much more carb/complication than I care to have at the moment, I can set myself up with a brand new 45 DCOE and manifold for not too much more money than it would cost me to pay someone to overhaul my SUs. And if I ever feel the need to go to 2 45's I'm already half way there in parts and know how.
I guess what I'm asking is has anyone had any experiance with a single DCOE on a b20? I know they can be a bit moody, will probably have to get an electric fuel pump, will probably have to mess around a bit with different sized chokes etc, and setting up the throttle linkage will be less straight forward.
But it will cut my teeth on DCOEs with only one to worry about and I will be able to upgrade to two if I feel necessary at some point.
Whatever carburator setup I decide on will be going on a slightly livened up head (all my heads need some work right now, so I'm going to at least put bigger exhaust valves in and port it a bit while I'm at it) and probably a 2" header with the exhaust dumping out just before the passanger side rear wheel.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Andrew
OH and has anyone heard/done anything with OER DCOEs? They're Japanese copies of Webers, I believe they used to be called SK.
