Overdrive problem related to oil filter change? 900

The mechanic who changed the oil filter on my 940 wagon had difficulty removing it. The new one seemed to go on easily. When I drove away and got up to 55 mph, the overdrive arrow went on and the car downshifted, seemingly by itself. Could the mechanic have loosened a wire accidentally? I've read the other posts, but am not sure about the location of the related wires, relay, etc.
