85 760 heater blower problem 700

Hi again all,
I fixed the blower motor several months ago by splicing another fuse holder to the fuse block as per the excellent post on the FAQ section. My son had the car for several months and complained that the blower won't work. I checked the new fuse (a 15) and it was blown, I thought "this is gonna be easy one", but now with the new fuse in, the blower will only work on defrost setting! Do I have a failed resistor pack? I swapped the relay that is behind glove box, using one from my '85 740 parts car and it didn't work...should I try to swap out the resistor piece? Or do I have a cc problem? Many thanks to all !
