What I said on the road this morning can't and won't be repeated here! The side tank on my Blackstone radiator decided to explode and dump the contents all over the road, mind you it was -9F and still dark out. I ended up pulling the lower rad hose off and routing it over to the top and filling the block with my remaining antifreeze to nurse the car home. I was 17 miles from home when this happened and while driving I noticed something very nice... Something I didn't expect from a diesel but nice warm HEAT with the temp gauge now coming off the "cool" mark. Ok lets speed up to fraffic rates and now the gauge reads right in the middle at 65 MPH. I have enough airflow around the block and through the heater to keep the engine at the normal operating temp but knowing this cold snap is only going to last until april or may I will need a radiator. Now can I purchase just the side tanks for the plastic radiators or am I stuck buying the whole thing? I modified the car to ditch the original diesel widefront radiator and now use a standard issue 700 series B230 radiator and works fine when the tanks dont explode.
Ideas thoughts or am I just going nuts in my old age?
