alternator bolt size 700 1987

I had my alt replaced a few months ago.
I was looking at it today and it looked like it is sitting askew.
I loosened the bolts to retighten it and it looks like there is some slop between the alt "ears" and the top bolt. The bolt looks like a 1/4 in dia.
Is that the correct size bolt?
If not what size bolt do I need to do this properly?
