Hey all, happy new year!

Here's the deal... When accelerating, I can hear this 'pinging' type noise coming from what "seems" to be the front passenger side of the car. This is not to be mistaken with pinging or knock due to fuel or engine issues, my instincts tell me that would be much more obvious. The car is in great running shape, and it should also be noted that to the best of my knowledge, all "loose" things in the engine compartment are tied down to prevent such sounds, and also I beleive my Cat is still original, and going on 14 years old, so one of my thoughts was possibly a busted cat spitting the honeycomb around my exhaust system.
One more thing, the sound is NOT reliant on engine speed, as the car must be moving, and generally goes away after 2800-3000 rpm or 40 mph.

Any thoughts? I'm sure it's not too serious, but I'd like to know the cause!
