Right Octane for '87 740GLE? 700

I have owned a 1987 740GLE for the past 2 years and have always used 87 octane.

Mileage is now at 180K. It is not knocking or running sluggish, so I wonder if I should keep using 87?

Am I doing any harm to the engine with 87? Should I switch to 89?

With gas so expensive here in San Diego, I would prefer to stick with 87....
