Has anyone ever tried putting a later model ignition system on a B21FT? I would like the security of having a knock sensor, esspeically as I am running low octane fuel. What I was thinking was a later model 240 system (bosch or EZK, prefer EKZ) or possibly a 740 ezk system (from a turbo). Would the turbo motor have a differnt timing curve? I know the stock unit has a boost retard built inot the dizzy, does the later model system also do that, or is it done by using the knock sensor? Also, how reliable is the knock sensor? Could I set initial timing several degrees advanced (for better fuel milage) and let the knock sensor system retard it further at high rpm? Would advancing the initial timing increse the fuel economy? Also, can you hook a 740 system (rear mounted dizzy) up to a 240 (side dizzy) distributor? I know the hall effect sensor operates with the same pricipal in both units, but are they enough the same to work? Probably have to change conectors, I know.
Thanks ~ John
