I have a '79 244 Dl that will not start. It ran fine with more than half a tank of gas, but would idle rough and sometimes stall if the tank was getting low. (I believed it needed the new/upgraded in-tank fuel pump.) However, 6 months ago it was broken into and it has been sitting in my back yard since then. Now I am going to get it running again and need some advice.
I have just read a lot on here about testing the pumps from the fuse box and I am going to do this in a few minutes. Yesterday I disconnected the fuel line that runs from the gas tank to the fuel pump on the chassis and put into gas gan and a little gas trickled out. This led me to believe it was the in-tank pump, but I have read on here that an in-tank failure would not cause a no start.
I was wondering was were the reviews on purchasing used fuel pumps? Can you test a pump accurately? Has anyone heard of the 79 240's needing an upgraded in-tank fuel pump?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
