86' 245 auto transmission question 200

My 86' 245 is having some transmission troubles. On occasion when I hit the throttle to kick down a gear to accelerate the trans won't shift back into a higher gear. Example.....it is in 3rd gear and it kicks down to second gear but won't come back out of second. After a while it finally shifts right again. This is an intermittent problem but it is getting more frequent. Any help would be geratly appreciated.
