Problem: Ignition Timing does not seem to be right.
Explanation: This engine is a B230F - 4-cylinder non-turbo. I picked up a Haynes manual and it declares that 12 degrees BTDC @ 750 RPM is appropriate. The manual is for 1982-1988 740's. Clearly three years too early for my model year. I bought a timing light and hooked it up to plug #1. Inspected the crank mark, it showed 20+ degrees. I am not sure about BTDC or ATDC. All I know is the crank mark was off of the plastic plate to my right. It was past the 20 mark. The mark was steady and did not waiver. The engine runs, but lacks power. I can't help think it could run better. The engine was just driven about 12 miles and I immediately popped the hood and checked it. I need some more accurate info here. Can anybody help me?
