Calling Dave Shannon? Long About Rust... 200 1986

Firstly, an apology for yet another thread about rust. I've read the archives to death on this, and a lot of hopeful stuff is there. BUT:

The carpets and pads are out, and sure enough, there's rust galore. It's along the rear weld of the box section the seats are bolted to. Passenger side is rust-free. Driver's side has a "slot" about half an inch wide and three inches long, directly behind the outermost front seat anchor. I can see the ground through it. From this, on over to the center tunnel, I've got a rusty crack. The crack climbs about halfway up the tunnel, but I cannot see the Earth through it. The only soft spot seems to be right around the "slot".

There is also surface rust (at least) underneath that box section, I'm sure. It has made its way out in the front, but again, the pan is not soft at all. The box section seems solid all the way across, and has not come loose from the pan. I've vacuumed out all the water and as many rust flakes as possible. I'm currently hunting down the source(s) of water ingress.

I've researched Por 15, and it sounds like first-class stuff that's within my means and abilities. Am I dreaming? I suspect so, and I realize it's difficult to say without making your own visual inspection.

Nevertheless, the Board has never once failed me. I'd appreciate very much any opinions or suggestions you might offer. I really wanna keep this car, but something needs to support my seat for the long term...

Brendan.
