Well, I'm thinking of getting rid of my 1987 240 and getting a 92-94 940. My 87 240 has treated me well, but is in need of $800-$1200 in repairs.
The 240 engine and tranny are still strong after 238,000 miles. I have recently replaced (all DIY) timing belt, tensioner, steering rack, ball joints, tie rods, drive belts. Radiator is still original. Minimal rust, Paint is decent. Car looks good when cleaned and waxed.
It's in need of tires, struts, shocks, heater valve, water pump, front CA bushings and probably rear bushings. I think the A/C is still working but the heater valve is stuck in the hot position so it's hard to tell. No 134a conversion.
What are your opinions on making the repairs (DIY) vs. moving on to something "new"?
Thanks in advance, Stan
