Hey everyone, I was investigating a no-charge condition on my car and discovered that all of the wires running to/around the alternator were melted/corroded. I cut off all of the bad wiring and spliced in new wiring, including the main power wire to the alternator. I plugged everything back in, with the exception of the oil pressure sensor wire(near the oil filter).
I went to charge it and smoke started coming out from near the alternator. I took the alternator off and discovered the ground wire running from the bottom of the alternator to the block was melted to all hell. None of the other wires had a problem, not even the main power wire.
My question is: was this caused by the oil pressure wire not being grounded out or do I have bigger issues? I am hoping it is because the sensor and its wire got lost in the rewiring. If that is it, could I just ground the wire out for now until I get it rewired(the oil pressure light will stay on all the time after that, right?)
Just curious if I have big or small issues, haha.
Thanks!
