So I have a 1972 142 with a B20f engine and d-jet FI. I've had this problem for almost a month now and am starting to get rather frustrated. The car starts fine, idles fine. When I drive sometimes the accelerator cuts out that comes back on rather quickly. Sometimes it cuts out and stalls, usually when I am traveling at about 50 mph. There are times when I can drive for 50 or so miles and not have a single problem. When the cut out happens it usually cuts in and out for about 3 to 4 minutes and than that is it and doesn't happen any more. I've checked the fuel system, replacing the fuel filter, I replaced the pump but it didn't help, checked the in tank filter it seems O.k., I tested the pressure it seems fine. Besides the fuel system I have also check most of the wires in the harness and found a few wires that were loose in the FI system and placed new connectors to them. Each time I do that it seems to fix it until I drive it (after a few successful test drives). I checked resistance and voltage on almost everything and it all seems fine. The only exception is with the wires to the starter, according to some info I have the wires to terminal 50 on the starter should have 9-12 volts and I don't have any, it says I should replace the ignition switch (starter starts the car fine). I do this with the car off and the ignition on. could this be the problem? What else can I check, I have to fix it because I know that the car will run fine Iif I took it to a machanic and they would charge me for nothing.
