My Car seems to be stuck in park, even with the engine on and the brake pressed.

i made sure the emergen. brake was down all the way, engine was running, and still wouldnt budge??

I ended up ripping the casing off from around it because it happened far from home and i didnt want to be stuck there.

I found a small yellow lever and pushed it down and was then able to free the gears up and drove home.

has anyone had this problem before??
I have never heard of a jammed gear proublem?

what do i do from here?

tips on trouble shooting the area would help alot....
