Hey,
My '90 740 wouldn't make any click or other noise when turning the key to start. The faq says the inhibitor switch is located under the gear indication panel, so I removed the center console cover but it looks like they meant underneath the car somewhere. I found a black wire that goes through a rubber grommet near the gear shift lever. Is this the wire that goes to the Start Inhibitor Switch? If I could find where the wiring connector plug is (inside the car) I could manually complete this circuit, anyone know where that is?
I'm going to try a known good battery next though, because after sitting in the car and trying to jiggle the gear shift knob over 10 minutes or so, the windows and dash lights became dim. So now I've either got a new problem or have found the original problem - a battery too dead to engage the starter.
Thanks,
Nathan
