Hi All,
I'm trying to spruce up the 1986 and get a working Odometer and this led me to change in a 1987 cluster. Following this I noticed I was not getting the expected 12V reading at the alternator (I then got another alternator, same result). I was also not getting the Ignition ON 'Idiot Lights' to come on.
After chasing this wire through the harness and many yards of electrical tape later I found that this wire seems to get the 12V via the cluster, out the 4th connection of 7 in the smaller 'plug connector'.
On the 87 cluster this connect point seems to then connect to the Temperature Gauge (not fuel gauge as my image 6195.jpg suggested, oops)
Putting the 86 cluster back in fixes the D+ 12V Issue so there is no break in the wire.
Is the Temperature Gauge Connection really part of the charging circuit?
Cheers!
Greg
